First Run Wizard

Inhalt

On the very first visit to a fresh Mesh installation a 3-step setup wizard runs before the actual dashboard is shown.

Step 1 — Identity

  • Dashboard name (e.g. "Home Lab", "Family", "My Company")
  • Subtitle — small line below the logo (default "Home Infrastructure")
  • Language — German / English (can be changed later under Admin → Settings)

Step 2 — Theme

  • 7 predefined presets to choose from (see Themes)
  • Accent colour via colour picker
  • Can be adjusted at any time under Admin → System → Theme

Step 3 — Admin account

  • Username + password + email (optional)
  • Stored hashed with bcrypt (cost 10) in the auth.users[] list
  • Auth mode stays at open initially — after the wizard you manually choose userPassword or OAuth2

What happens technically?

  1. meta.firstRunCompleted = true in config.json
  2. Default services + default quick links are created (see apps/web/src/server/config/defaults.ts)
  3. Default theme + default search engines
  4. 25+ default FAQ entries (see Admin → Help & FAQ)
  5. Redirect to / (dashboard)

Wizard skipped?

If meta.firstRunCompleted: true but no admin users exist AND the auth mode is not open, you will be redirected to /setup.

Trigger the wizard again

In config.json:

{
  "meta": { "firstRunCompleted": false },
  "auth": { "users": [] }
}

Restart the container — the wizard runs again. Note: existing services/widgets are NOT deleted; the wizard only adds missing defaults.
